April is one of the best times of year to refresh your landscape here in South Louisiana. As temperatures warm up, your lawn and plants are entering their most active growing season—and what we do now sets the tone for the months ahead.

How We’re Improving Our Annual Flower Installations

At Acadiana Landscape Materials, we’re always looking for ways to deliver better, longer-lasting results for our customers. This season, we’ve upgraded our planting process for annual flowers to focus on what matters most: soil health and plant establishment.

Why this matters:
Healthy soil + strong roots = healthier plants, better blooms, and longer-lasting color in your landscape.

Here’s what we’re doing differently:

✔ Adding root stimulator at install
To reduce transplant shock and encourage faster root development, we’re applying root stimulator during planting. This helps plants establish quicker and thrive in our challenging Louisiana climate:

✔ Amending beds with Black Kow compost
We’re incorporating nutrient-rich compost into the soil to improve structure, drainage, and overall fertility. Healthy soil leads to stronger root systems and better-performing plants. Black Kow - Cow Manure Compost:

  • All-natural

  • Feed naturally for up to 3 months

  • Aerobically composted - No Odor!

  • Up to 10x the nutrients of garden soil

  • Millions of beneficial microbes to improve the soil

  • Increase nutrient content

  • Moisture efficient, use less water.

  • No chemicals added during our processing and packaging.

April Lawn & Landscape Checklist (South Louisiana)

Here’s a quick guide to keep your yard in top shape this month:

Lawn Care

  • Apply spring fertilizer (if not already done)

  • Start regular mowing (don’t cut too short)

  • Check irrigation system and adjust as needed

  • Spot treat weeds before they spread

Flower Beds

  • Plant heat-tolerant annuals (pentas, vinca, blue daze, & angelonia)

  • Refresh mulch to retain moisture and control weeds

  • Remove any winter-damaged plants

  • Edge beds for a clean, defined look

Shrubs & Trees

  • Lightly prune spring growth if needed

  • Fertilize shrubs and trees

  • Inspect for pests or disease

General Maintenance

  • Increase watering as temperatures rise

  • Improve drainage in problem areas

  • Plan upgrades before peak summer heat
