Preparing Your Landscape for Spring
Winter is finally behind us, and that means it’s time to get your landscape back in shape for the growing season! A little early attention goes a long way. With the right timing and care, your yard will wake up healthy, green, and ready to thrive as temperatures rise across Acadiana.
At Acadiana Landscape Materials, we use this time of year to reset flower beds, fertilize plants, and get everything ready for new growth. Whether you handle some of it yourself or let our team take care of it for you, here are a few key steps to get your property spring-ready:
Cut Back Winter-Damaged Plants
If your plants went dormant or suffered from winter freeze damage, now’s the time to trim them back or remove any that didn’t make it. Cutting away dead or damaged growth helps encourage new, healthy shoots as the weather warms up. Pruning at the right time also keeps your landscape neat and prevents disease from spreading.
We typically start by cutting back ornamental grasses, removing dead blooms from shrubs, and shaping plants like loropetalum, hollies, and azaleas before they push new growth.
