October Newsletter: Why We Wait to Plant Fall Annuals
We all love the color of pansies, violas, and snapdragons, but October in South Louisiana is still too warm for them to thrive. If planted too early, they’ll struggle with:
- Heat stress from warm days
- Shorter bloom life
- Higher risk of fungus and water stress
That’s why our crews hold off until early to mid-November when the weather cools. Planting at the right time gives you healthier flowers that last all winter and bloom beautifully into spring.
Why Fall is the Best Time for Trees & Shrubs
While we wait on flowers, fall is prime planting season for trees and shrubs. Here’s why:
- Cooler air = less stress on plants
- Warm soil = strong root growth before winter
- More time to establish = healthier plants next spring
By planting in fall, trees and shrubs settle in and build strong roots during the mild months. When spring hits, they’re ready to push out new growth and handle Louisiana’s summer heat.
